Weekly Photo Challenge: Afloat …

The challenge this week is to interpret the word afloat.

The dictionary definitions of afloat are:  1-floating or borne on the water; in a floating condition… and 2-moving without being guided or controlled; drifting.

1-is of a the ferry the On Time III which sails between the island of Martha’s Vineyard and the smaller island of Chappaquiddick.

2-is this kite being flown at the beach.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Blur …

‘The prompt this week is to share a photo that’s a blur. You could keep your camera out of focus to achieve a blurry photo, or take a photo of something in motion. Or go in a different direction — capture an image of an experience that would otherwise be a blur, or of something in a state of flux.’

My photo is of the lights on the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York City… I simply pointed my camera and quickly moved it while taking the picture.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Ephemeral…

The prompt is to show us what ephemeral means to you.

The definition of ephemeral is: lasting a very short time; short-lived.

These icicles definitely qualify as short-lived.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reward …

I received this amaryllis at Christmas.  I fell in love with it and enjoyed watching as each stalk grew and these beautiful flowers bloomed.  When all the flowers were done I followed the instructions to cut the plant back to 2 inches and treat it as a house plant.  I wasn’t sure this would work for me but lo and behold last week I got my reward…. the plant is growing and who knows, maybe next Christmas another reward when it blooms again.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Rule of Thirds …

‘The Rule of Thirds is a photography concept that puts the subject of the photograph off-center, which usually results in blank space in the rest of the image. If you focus closely on your subject and use a wide aperture, your photograph’s background will also be beautifully blurred in that blank space. The blurred area behind your focal point is referred to as bokeh, and when executed well, it adds depth and artistry to an otherwise simplistic photograph.’

Weekly Photo Challenge: Symmetry …

Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs on the island of Martha’s Vineyard is a perfect example of symmetry to me.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Scale …

This week’s photo challenge is ‘scale’.  I took this photo one foggy morning on Martha’s Vineyard while waiting in line to board the ferry.  The little rowboat in the harbor seems even smaller next to the bigger boat.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Depth …

This week’s challenge is ‘depth’ and my interpretation of it is seeing the depth of the ice on the Mendenhall glacier in Alaska
