Happy New Year!

Hope everyone is having a very happy new year!

2012 was a really productive year here at Adriprints Press!

In sewing and quilting, I made quite a few items, and met my goals for 2012
2 quilt tops (brown quilt is nearly fully quilted)
3 trousers (2 jeans, 1 clover)
1 fitted jacket
1 wool coat
2 dresses
5 tops (1 hoodie, 1 sleeveless, 1 pullover, 1 buttoned sleeveless, 1 buttoned short sleeved)
1 apron
1 dirndl bodice
1 plaid skirt

In knitting design, I had a good number of items published (self-published or otherwise)
Oslo Star Hat
Alhambra Hat
Stripey Legwarmers
Orange Blossom Camisole
Squishy Mittens
Squishy Chullo Hat
Amaranth Shawl
Amaranth Headband
... and I am waiting for a few more to be published hopefully early this year including: a children's line,
Squishy Vest, and a mystery plaid set.

In hobby knitting, I made quite a few items including a really lovely cabled sweater (Beatnik), an Easter bunny/egg, finally knit Sam's second sock, a few hats, and am working on 2 cardigans.

In crochet, I finished one of the cutest projects ever: the Yellow Submarine Booties, designed by my friend Nuria over at Red Sewing Box.

I published 1 font this year, Kicks, and hope to update and create some new ones this year.

And, my 2013 New Years Resolutions...
knitting- publish a few more patterns, learn brioche knitting
crochet - do a bit more of it
sewing- sew a pair of perfectly fitting jeans/trousers, drape 1 dress or outfit
quilting- finish quilting the 2 quilts from last year and make 1 quilt
design - learn more about WordPress to create an online shop

Figs with bacon, blue cheese, and balsamic vinegar

IMG_9628 IMG_9629

A couple of years ago some friends had an amazing fig dish somewhere and I’ve been hearing about it and drooling over it ever since. Just a few weeks ago one of them came to visit and brought her version of them and they were every bit as delicious as expected. When I found some fancy pants balsamic in my stocking, I new exactly what I would do with it!

Fig Bliss

Rehydrate several figs in very hot water for 30 minutes. Slice across the widest part of the fig and stuff in a bit of blue cheese. Wrap with half a bacon slice (uncut side of the fig down) and secure with a toothpick. Bake at 300F until bacon is somewhat crispy. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar.

Sunflower Skeletons on a Snowy Day

I am not a spectacular photographer by any means, but I work and live in a truly beautiful place. The Kansas Historical Society, location of my day job, is on the edge of town, and we are lucky enough to have prairie reserve as part of our property. We have hiking trails that wind through the prairie, sometime surrounding the hiker in grasses and sunflowers seven or eight feet high. It has taken me six months to remember to bring my camera to work and take some pictures during my lunch-break walk. But it’s good that I remembered today, because we are getting the perfect “White Christmas” snow right now. (It’s a week late, but I’ll take it.)

In August, these were all sunflowers in full bloom. (And it was 110 degrees, so I was not outside much)

Before we welcome in 2013, I thought I’d put together a little trip down the 2012 memory lane.  It’s been quite a year.

Enjoy!

Must. Stop. Now!

A couple folks have been encouraging me to clear out the old magazines and create a shelf for handspun yarn after I mentioned how much I wanted to do that. This morning I got a bee in my bonnet and had at it! The recycle bags are the result of all of the organizing that’s gone on this week. I’m afraid that my allergies and asthma have gone into meltdown and I will definitely have to draw the line here. I scanned patterns from some of the magazines before they went into recycle bags and those are still waiting to be made into PDFs and stored away properly.

In which an entire month just disappears before our very eyes

December really got away from me this year. For the last few months, I've been involved with a committee for our library consortium -- we've been researching a potential new vendor for our integrated library system software. December was crunch-time...
