Lambcam vs Lightening

And sadly, the lightening won this round.  It would seem that during the storm this past week, a particularly wicked bolt of lightening hit close enough to the camera to disable it.  I’m not a techie but I’ve been told that there are four integral parts and two are dead.  Hopefully it won’t take long to repair and you’ll be able to watch the antics of the lambs again soon.  Until then, here are some new photos!

Yarn Thing podcast!

dc5fc5d7-d801-4a2a-a9d8-9335a21d12e4_marly-squareOh, I’m so excited! I’m going to be on Marlybird’s podcast tomorrow. Listen live for chances to win things!  (Of course there will be further chances to win after the podcast as well.)

I’m blushing already re: the title — knitting expert?!?

I’ve known Marly for several years.  She’s one of the sweetest folks in the knitting industry.

More Adorable Than We Can Handle

We are up to 14 lambs, with one ewe left to go.  We were prepared for lots and lots of babies, but many of our ladies did not twin, which has been a blessing.  We are pretty tired from taking care of all of these adorable babies and their mamas!

Even so, the adorable levels here have gone through the roof and it’s hard to not be out playing with them and watching them frolic ALL THE TIME!

Today our friend Lisa came with her little one to meet the lambs and took some pictures for us.

Thanks, Lisa!

If you’ve been watching lambcam, the best time is  evening (after 6 pm).  That’s when the lambs get playful and will run and jump around.

Container Herbs

container herbs just planted

I was going for super cheap this year, but wanted to put my herbs in containers, so I searched and searched for the most cost effective thing I could find -- and would you believe Kmart came to the rescue? Those flexible green tubs were only $4.99 each, so I grabbed three, drilled some holes in the bottoms, added a single layer of egg rock I had laying around for good measure, and plopped all my new little buddies in.

I had great internal anguish over whether to plant all three thymes together, or divide them among the three containers. I guess it's obvious which way I went, but it was not an easy decision, and there was much hand-wringing. ;)

Also used this season for the first time in years is the enamel basin I used to use as a planter at our old house.

Everything's filthy because it had been freshly planted, but I just love the way plants look in there.

A non-herb update is the addition of some cheater greens (ones I did not start from seed) to replace the failed mixed lettuce seeds. The seeds I used were great performers in the past, but the pack was very old, so I wasn't too surprised when they didn't come up.

"corn salad" and arugula

Yesterday I built the last two frames for the shelf and planted some broccoli (I do realize it's late, but we're just planting it for the greens back there) and some red lettuce.

Cross your fingers for the continued success of the shelf garden! It frees up a lot of space in the other beds and looks nice back there, so I'm really hoping it works out.

Working on uploading a glabillionty pictures from a nature walk I took with a friend the other evening and will share soon. I think you'll enjoy them.

The Wild West: Stranded — Organ Pipe Beanie

SUNSET CAT-51Like with the Ringtail Hat and Mitts, I wanted to take elements of the original pattern—in this case the Organ Pipe mitts—and make a coordinating, rather than matching, accessory.

The Organ Pipe Beanie uses the flower motif but expands on the geometric motifs.
