Weekly Challenge: Close Up …

The prompt this week is close up…

So this week, get up close and personal with your subject — whether it’s the pollen on a newly bloomed flower, rust on an old fence, or water droplets left by a storm — and capture those tiny, fascinating details that might go unnoticed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weekly Challenge: Symbol…
This week, share a symbol with us.You can choose something that is uniquely symbolic and relevant to you, and share the story behind it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My symbol is this flag.. This is a picture of the flag that flew over Ft McHenry in Baltimore and inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem which became our national anthem.

 I took this picture of the flag in 1985 at the Smithsonian, photos of it are not allowed anymore.

Weekly Challenge: Door …

For this week’s challenge, publish a new post with a photo of a door (or multiple doors!). Consider how color affects the image, but also think about size, shape, texture, and details — how might these elements add up to tell a story?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went through lots of door pictures and thought about doing a collage but these two pictures kept jumping out at me mainly because I just really like them.
This first one is taken looking out of Trinity Methodist Church in the Campgrounds in Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard… looking towards the Tabernacle.
Weekly Challenge: Muse …
The prompt for Muse is:   what’s your muse — what subject do you turn to frequently, more inspired each time?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Finding a muse was easy for me… my muse is the island of Martha’s Vineyard.  I have many favorite places there but the one place I gravitate to all the time, with or without my camera is the Tabernacle in the town of Oak Bluffs. My family teases me about my obsession with taking its picture, they say that almost all of them look the same, but I know the nuances of this building, how the light comes through the stained glass windows differently at certain times of the day… how the shadows of the bench seats make designs on the floor when the sun comes in at a certain angle.  I love this place, it is more than my muse, it’s a place of contentment, restoration and joy for me. Here it is… the Tabernacle as seen through my eyes.

Weekly Challenge: Roy G Biv …

The prompt for this week’s challenge is:  Roy G. Biv: no, he’s not the new bagger down at the grocery store. “Roy G. Biv” is an acronym made of the first letters of the seven colors of the rainbow, to help you remember: Red. Orange. Yellow. Green. Blue. Indigo. Violet. It’s also your photo challenge theme for this week!*

You can attack this challenge in one of two ways: share an image that contains all the colors of the rainbow (or an actual rainbow)…

Weekly Challenge: On The Way …

The prompt for this weeks challenge is:  stop and photograph the metaphorical roses (or the literal tulips). Share a shot of something you saw, did, or experienced on the way: a photo not of your destination, but of an interesting thing along the way. Show us something stunning others might have missed, or find some unexpected beauty in a mundane moment. Maybe we can all start looking at the in-betweens a bit differently!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was on the ferry leaving Martha’s Vineyard when one of the other ferries sailed by going to the Island.   I thought that was an interesting shot…
but when I turned around to go back to my car I glanced out the porthole I saw the lighthouse off in the distance and thought that was even better.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Enveloped …
The challenge this week is the word enveloped and our interpretation of it.  This car enveloped by overgrowth is my example of enveloped.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Forces Of Nature …
The challenge this week is:  This week, share a force of nature from your corner of the world. It can be something as large as the Grand Canyon, or as small as the tiny seedling steadily breaking is way through the concrete in your driveway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You can’t actually see the forces of nature at work in these pictures of the Gay Head Lighthouse on the island of Martha’s Vineyard… but it’s because of the erosion of the cliffs that the lighthouse is now being moved.  It stands perilously close to the edge, a mere 46 feet from the edge.  The move has already begun and the lighthouse is expected to soon be in its new location.  For anyone interested, the website is Save The Gay Head Lighthouse… CLICK HERE for link.
