Weekly Challenge: Circle …

The prompt for Circle …..With 2016 officially here, we face forward to take on what’s next. It’s a time of endings and beginnings, so I wanted a broad theme that could be simple, fun, and festive, but also complex and introspective. And so, circle it is.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My choice for the topic Circle… is Stonehenge which is located in southern England, it is comprised of roughly 100 massive upright stones placed in a circular layout.  For centuries, historians and archaeologists have puzzled over the many mysteries of Stonehenge, the prehistoric monument that took Neolithic builders an estimated 1,500 years to erect. CLICK HERE to learn more about Stonehenge which I found to be very interesting.
Weekly Challenge: Victory …
The prompt: In your photo this week, focus on the win, the victory — that moment of glory and pride you’ll remember forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don’t bake often, almost never, but when I do it’s never been from scratch… until last year when I wanted to surprise my daughter with a homemade cake that I had baked.  I wrote this post on my other blog and thought I would share it here today as my ‘victory’ challenge :)

I Can Bake ! …

It took me 51 years but I finally made a cake from scratch.

Last year for my daughter’s birthday I wanted to surprise her with something she would not expect… and a homemade cake would definitely be that.

I gathered my stuff together and began my new experience.

This ‘new picture’ Betty Crocker Cook Book by the way isn’t all that new.  It was given to me by my dad 51 years ago.

100_7203I decided to make a pound cake in a bundt pan. I mixed all ingredients, well, except for one which I couldn’t find in the pantry and figured it wasn’t all that important … how much of a difference could a tsp of baking powder make anyway.

I even melted some chocolate to add to the pound cake…  thought it would give it some oomph and who doesn’t like at least of dash of chocolate in a cake.

My creation

Into the oven it went and then it was only a matter of waiting to see if it would come out of the cake pan in one piece !  Yay… it did.

My creation

Maybe the baking powder would have made it a little taller but I like to think of it as a petite pound cake.

The victory cake complete with candles :)

Weekly Challenge: Treat …

The prompt is: This week, share with us a photo of something that you consider a marvelous treat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cliche though it may be, a treat for me was when my daughter took me into NYC and we went to Dylan’s candy store… and also stopped at Serendipity II for their famous frozen hot chocolate which I adore…and do not share :)
Weekly Challenge: (Extra)ordinary …
The prompt is :(Extra)ordinary, because our own ideas and experiences will shape our interpretations. What’s mundane yet meaningful to you? What’s a beautiful everyday thing?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just came back from Plymouth, MA where I visited the Mayflower and what I think is extra-ordinary about these photos is the beautiful and vibrant October sky… blue always seems bluer in October

Weekly Challenge: Boundaries …

Boundaries impose limits on us, whether they’re social constructs or real, physical objects. They’re there to stop us from doing or saying what we actually want to. But they also give structure to our actions and frame our movements. In photography, they help our eyes make sense of what we see and convey a sense of visual narrative. They constantly invite us to push against them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My first photo of my interpretation of boundaries is this ‘do not enter’ sign on a usually closed gate in a private lake community in NJ…
My collage is from my visit to the Thomas Edison Laboratories in West Orange, New Jersey last December…
Weekly Challenge: Connected…
This week, show us how two (or more) things — people, objects, places — come together.
Except for boat the only way this island is connected to the mainland is by this bucket/gondola on a cable of some sort … something you’d ever get me in :)
Weekly Photo Challenge: Creepy …
The prompt is:  This week, share an image of something creepy. Unsettling. Eerie.  Grab a shot of something you find disturbing. Try a black-and-white shot of something you’d normally photograph, to give it a moody cast.  This week give us some heebie-jeebies !
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My choice is the abandoned Gingerbread Castle and adjoining Wheatsworh Mill in Hamburg, New Jersey.
