Yarned by You

Who wants to see some beautiful knits today? You do! Well, you’re in luck because I’ve got another edition of Yarned by You! A reminder that (if you’re on Ravelry) you can click through the images to get to the project page and learn more, including where to get the pattern.

This Wild Vanilla vest never looked so good in Sabine (09 Wisteria). Mollysbottomknits did a fantastic job! I love the cabled pulling everything together at the top!

Mollysbottoms' wild vanilla

This Gable (designed by Caroline Fryar) was knit in Findley Dappled (Woodland) by JulieRoseSews. I love how well this pattern works with a variegated yarn! And it’s a free pattern! So if you want to make your own version, you can find it (and the rest of the free Findley patterns) on the Findley Free Pattern page.

Okay, this one feels a little bit like cheating because it was designed by Ann, which works for KFI (our distributor). So maybe it doesn’t quite feel like YOU made it. But Ann actually reads the blog alongside everyone else (Hi Ann!), so I think it counts anyway. And besides, she made it a free pattern, so that’s gotta count for something, right? It’s the Chadwick Argyle Cowl! She knit it using Black Magic (#10), Dawn (#3), and Syrah (#4).

This Cora (again designed by Caroline Fryar) has been lingering my favorites for awhile now, so I’m glad that I get to share it with the rest of you! She knit it just as the pattern states, using Herriot 04 Walnut as the main color.

kamikazeknit's Cora

tonymsrad made this Snowball Beanie to go with the Annie Boot Cuff which she also made. She used Yearling in 01 Snowball.

I’m slightly enamored of the Whisper Wrap. It’s definitely in my to-knit list. In fact, I’ve shown off this wrap in Findley before! I just love it! This one is made by Regina-K using Rappahanock. The drape! It just gets me every time!

Yarned by You: It’s really really Spring!

Spring has really come to the Northeast. We’re just past the disgusting pollen-laden season and right now everything is so green and beautiful and bright and sunny and happy. (Well yesterday and today have looked a bit cool and stormy, but that’s just nature reminding me that it’s spring and not summer!) So I toured through my file of favorites to see what people are making in our spring yarns!

This Runa in Sabine (12 Sirius) was made by kkuncl. She writes that it used some new techniques that she wanted to try. I love to learn new things while knitting, don’t you?

kkuncl's Runa

MelissaNCgirl knit this gorgeous Shirley Sweater in Findley (Poppy) super fast! I love the tie at the front and the fun lace details.

MelissaNCgirl's Shirley sweater

SaraLeila knit this as a chemo cap for the Hope Lodge. I love the idea of Moonshine (Blackberry) giving someone a bit of comfort through their difficult journey. This pattern is called Molly.

SaraLeila's Molly

redsocksrules (hm… can you guess where she’s from?) made good use of Yearling (10 Leafy) by knitting Short Sands. I’m really digging oversized lace like this!

redsocksrules's Short Sands

Also in Yearling (see note above about digging oversized lace!), is this lovely Storm Fir Shawl, knit by sageb in Blue Blue Sky. Two balls of yarn, one day, and BAM! lace shawl!

This lovey sweater knit in Sabine (Posy), is reverisible. Some people wear it with the V in the back, and some with the V in the front! mclaugan shows the Joule pullover with the V in the front but added a little extra detail to the other side.

A reminder that clicking on the picture will take you directly to the knitter’s project page where you can learn more about their garments!

WIP: Uma Cardigan

It’s been a busy few weeks since I’ve shown off  my Hattie Cowl on blog. And my carpal tunnel has been flaring up. So I haven’t been up to much knitting. But when I was knitting, I was working on my Uma Cardigan that Tabetha Hedrick designed for this spring’s line of Sabine. I’m working it up in 12 Sirius because I thought that it would be great to have a black sweater to be able to throw on top of anything. Want to see it?

Uma Cardigan in a Box

There you go! My work here is done. See you in a couple of weeks!

No? That doesn’t satisfy your curiosity. FINE. I’ll take another picture!

Uma Cardigan controlling Yarn

So the reason why my sweater was in that shoe box was yarn management. I decided to make this sweater in three separate pieces as written, instead of doing it seamlessly. I know that the designer believes in the structure that seams give a garment and I decided that I would follow that principal. But I sometimes get lazy in counting and what if I made a mistake in the cabling on one row and it was obvious because it was near another cable? I couldn’t live with that! So instead, I worked the sweater as three separate pieces, knit all at the same time!

Uma Cardigan to Waist Shaping

I started working on this sweater in January or February and put it down for March and April. I only got a few inches done in the last couple of weeks. I don’t think I’m as speedy a knitter as Sarah and her OJAI Hooray sweater!

Uma Cardigan Decrease Marking

In order to make SURE I didn’t miss a decrease, I decided to mark each one with a removable stitch marker. It was great because several times I caught myself having finished off a row without making a decrease and the act of placing the marker reminded me. I had twice as many markers, I’d leave them all in until it was time to seam to give me an easy reference to line up the seams.

UmaCardigan Cable

One last look at the cable! I’m pretty happy with it, despite that bit of pulling in the “><” section. Anyone have any great tips for preventing that?

Yarned by You

Let’s see what we have in the Yarned bu You Vault today, shall we?

First up is this Rock Island knit by Sheetah2011 in Findley. I love how open it is, but I’d be terrified of it catching on something, since I’m hard on all of my clothes.

Cheetah2011's rock island

KnitlessInSeattle knit this Bessie, which was designed by Caroline Fryar for the Fall 2012 collection of Herriot. I am in love with the stripes! Ghost Fern and Heartwood were used.

This Taiga Chowichan was knit by AlisonHW in Yearling. I love the green and purple combination and how the master and contrast color switch from the top and the bottom of the sweater.

MicheleMMPH knit this gorgeous Diamond Knit Jumper in Herriot color #6. Wow those cables look crisp and drapey – not a combination I’d typically expect1

This Cedar Leaf Shawlette was knit by jasmiepup in Moonshine #9. I love this leaf edging and I feel like I could just drive into the blue!

Finally, our friend Shirra knit this gorgeous Uma Pullover in the Sungold colorway of Sabine. Isn’t it just lovely? It looks super soft and cozy and she did a great job with the cables.

What are you working on this week?

Yarned by You: Quick Version!

It’s 11:58p as I start this post, so I don’t think this will quite be on most people’s Wednesday radar! But I tried! Here’s a quick look at what people are making with JMF yarn.

Sparkley introduced herself to the JMF Ravelry group by showing us this gorgeous Seamless Yoke Sweater which has a lovely backstory. The Elizabeth Zimmerman book that the pattern is from is filled with her mother’s knitting notes. This is a great use of Herriot and she has enough that she could make a sweater with the dark color as the main color!

Linmiya used Sabine to knit a matching Chihuahua stuffie with the Noodle pattern. Adorable and practically life-sized!

Limiya's noodle

This Etna Cardigan is one of the many Sabine patterns designed by Tabetha Hedrick designed for the Spring 2013 line of Sabine yarn colors. spindleknitter has many more great photos and great notes on her Ravelry project page!

Yarned by You: Potpourri Gallery

This week, I was enamored with a bunch of projects. These are all fun things I could definitely see myself making!

I’ve had the Nouveau Beaded Capelet in my favorites for quite awhile! I love the shape of it, even if I have a hard time coming up with a regular occasion to wear such and elegant piece. I love what msuper did with hers, made in Findley.

msuper's Nouveau Beaded Capelet

I recently posted about the Big Tile Pullover. At the same time I first spotted it, realhelen did, too! She knit up this sweater super fast thanks to Bulky Yearling!

realhelen's Big Tile Pullover

There will be a new baby girl in my life in August, and the sweet Feeling Sheepish baby sweater that bkroll made would be perfect! The pink and white yarns are Chadwick, the moon is Willa, and the juniper tree is her 2012 spring share yarn dyed in Ojai. Truly an all-encompassing JMF yarn sweater!

bkroll's JMF Cardigan

After my Berzelius scarf, I’m making a cowl in Herriot. It’s not the Dovetail Cowl that pageta knit, but I could see this cowl in my future! It is a pattern that I looks great on both sides and could be easily adapted to a scarf.

pageta's Dovetail Cowl II

wonderfullyknit knit this slouchy Sabine hat wonderfully! I love the two color thick and thin stripes and the Country Road colorway makes a great manly color.

wonderfullyknit's Slouchy Striped Hat

And you can’t go wrong with a hat made of squishy Marlowe! cgilbert made this lovely cabled hat.

cgilbert's Marlowe Hat

And finally, my favorite project this week is entirely whimsical! Using Herriot, lochknitsmonster made Napoleon the nervous narwhal! It’s it adorable?!

Do you have any favorite JMF projects that you’ve seen recently? It will keep our minds off waiting for lambs!

Yarned by You

Susie is stuck under a mountain of snow and it’s raining cold, hard, windy rain here with the threat of snow tomorrow. I’m alternately wanting to snuggle up under the most comfortable of warm clothes, or throw out anything having to do with winter and embrace spring.

Let’s see what I can find that you’ve made on Ravelry to match my mood.

Winter Warmth. Blendab1 knit this Cowboy Cowl out of her Spring 2011 share for her gorgeous daughter.

Blendab1's Cowboy Cowl

Spring for Spring. rebeca4a knit All the Stops (designed by Caroline Fryar for the Spring 2012 collection) in Findley Dappled’s Woodland to wear on her cruise. She modified it for a more conservative neckline and skipped the belt.

rebeca4a's All the Stops

Cozy Comfort. chelseabug knit a Hattie dress (also designed by Caroline Fryar for the Fall 2012 collection) in Herriot. I would love to be wrapped in a dress like this with some wool tights.

chelseabug's Hattie

Warm-Weather Wear. SupaSteph knit a supa-awesome Leaves of Spring shawl out of Findley in Dove. Just right as a spring layering piece, though if I started right now I don’t know that I’d be done before fall!

SupaSteph Pi

Head Heater. jbritton79 knit this Thorpe out of Marlowe in Madrigal. A lovely pop of purple color to know that spring will someday be here.

jbritton's thorpe

Cool Cap. This is the first Moonshine project in the wild! Knipper knit this Ola hat (which received a lot of attention on Rav for its racy pattern page photo!) out of the brand new yarn, Moonshine in Charcoal and Swimming Pool.

Kipper's Ola

Here’s something a little bit in between. Tamrisk knit up Driftwood, which has been in my favorites for awhile since it features a relatively unknown shoulder/sleeve construction called Contiguous. It’s gaining in popularity and just became an attribute tag on Ravelry. (In fact, the All the Stops dress pictures above uses it!) It’s a top down method in which you knit the sleeve cap and body at the same time. Anyway, Tamrisk did her Driftwood in one color of Sabine – Sirius. (Did I mention that it’s free?) The pink buttons are a fun addition!

What do you like to knit on these stormy days?

Yarned by You: Yearning for Spring

It is pouring freezing rain here in Massachusetts. It is absolutely horrid out. In miserable weather like this there is nothing better to do than to snuggle up with some warm wool and wait for Spring to start. So, shall we?

ShayneDKnits held Herriot double to make this Jumper with Hood. She looks absolutely adorable in it!

This lovely sweater was made by dkmerola knit Desire using Willa in Aquarium. This color makes me long for Spring!

I know I’ve featured the Featherweight Cardigan before, but I just can’t get enough of it in Findley! HeatherBrum knit this one in Crocodile.

HeatherBurm's Featherweight Cardigan

This Hilton Field Cowl was knit by AnxiousKnitter by using three different shades of Sabine. I love how it’s reversible!

The many undyed shades of Herriot are perfect colorwork like this Vera Marguerite Tam as designed by Pam Wynne for the Fall 2012 yarn line. knittingceleste did a wonderful job knitting this one. She’s making the matching cowl!

This Big Tile Pullover was knit by tentenknits using Yearling. I love the pop of color in the yoke (and the hint of baby bump in this picture!)

Valentine’s Gift to You!

Or should I say, Galentine’s Day? (Does anybody watch Parks & Rec? It started off kind of lame but now I think it’s really well written and hilarious. When Ben wanted to play The Settlers of Catan for his bachelor party, I nearly wet my pants laughing.)

Wow. I can’t believe I just wasted so much time talking about a t.v. show. Moving on.

We are not necessarily big fans of Valentine’s Day around here. We can take it or leave it, to be honest with you. But we do love knitting and yarn, so we’re giving you one of my very favorite patterns, written for one of my very favorite yarns, by one of my very favorite designers!

Ladies and gentlemen (but mostly ladies), here’s Bramble.
BRAMBLE_hero_medium2

Bramble is a gorgeous cabled wrap, knit is Sabine and shown here in Icicle. (This is one of my favorite colors and most of the yarns in my personal stash are this lovely shade of blue.)

I love this picture of Emily modeling Bramble, because I remember that it was raining when we shot it, and that there is an umbrella being held over Emily’s head just out of the shot. The rest of us got completely drenched and we all ran back into the farmhouse as soon as we were done, laughing all the way.

BRAMBLE_cable_detail_medium2

The pattern for Bramble can be downloaded right here, or by visiting the Sabine link on the free pattern page. (By the way, Lauria worked with our graphic designer on the new layout for our free patterns, and has optimized them for printing at home. No one like a pattern that uses up your entire ink cartridge! They are still lovely but now they are smart as well. Cause that’s how we roll.)

Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all! I hope your day is filled with people you love.
