Simple Guacamole Recipe

Looking for a simple, delicious guacamole base that your kids will eat? You can add spice to your own batch, but this one's plain delicious and even toddlers will eat it (at least mine does).

The most basic ingredients:
2-3 Hass avocados
1 small/medium red onion
1 handful cilantro
1 clove garlic
Lime juice to taste
Salt to taste

...
After that, add what you like! We usually add tomatoes if they're in season. My partner loves adding spice so he usually adds jalapeño pepper and some cayenne.

Also, for best results, don't eat it immediately. Let it sit in the fridge for an hour or so, to let the flavors blend together.

Enjoy!!

Hardwood Floor Nails

Hardwood floor nails. Due to the sensitivity of natural “solid” hardwood from humidity and wetness, natural solid wood floors are generally installed at or over ground degree. Summer & June Gloom

My Summer Finch for the Finch & Foxglove site!

Did you know about June Gloom in Southern California? I just learned about it at the end of last month. I actually really like it!

So what is it? It's this weather phenomenon where clouds form over the ocean along the coast and the winds move these clouds onto land creating a foggy, cool atmosphere. I LOVE the cool mornings!

All this talk of beach and clouds and such has me all in a tizzy making artwork about fish and water! Did you see my new summer finch up top? It's now live on the Finch & Foxglove homepage, too.

Thinking about the beach...

And the water...

And I've been sewing too, I just haven't had the chance to photograph the garments I've made for my son and me. I participated again in MeMadeMay but again didn't post photographs. I wore lots of me-made clothing for Surtex in fact! I must do a sewing recap post soon.

Poster for the Global Art Gathering in Brighton

I decided to get painterly again!

And it was fun.

For those process-lovers...

I started out with marker and quick-sketched lots of different concepts.  Here are my faves:

At first, I started drawing in Illustrator, but most people in the MATS Bootcamp were going digital right away, and I couldn't get the kind of texture in the marks that I wanted.  And I felt like I couldn't really get that kind of energy using just vector imaging.  So, I went painterly.  I was so happy to get painting!  I adjoined 4 square canvases and painted them as if they were one.  I used paper, paint, ink, fabric, and all kinds of pens.

See the seams where the canvases met?
Then, I sliced them apart with an exacto blade and scanned them individual at a very high resolution.  I then took it to Photoshop where I painted and patched the seams, collaged some more, and then added the text.  And there you have it!

So what's the poster about?  Well, it's a real event happening in Brighton, and I'm super excited to be going!  It includes speakers and networking, and best of all... it's in Brighton!  I cannot wait to visit the city.  I've heard such great things, and can't wait to see for myself! You can find out more information about the Global Art Gathering here.

Almost There!

I'm nearly done painting the new part.

How do you like the colors?  We have decided we don't want to live in a dark house this time around.  And I am so thankful to be able to do most of the work before the furniture is  delivered.

The colors are pretty true to life.  At least on my monitor anyway.  The bedroom blue is a different intensity depending on the time of day.

I love the crazy green in the bathroom.  The taped area was helping me decide on an old cabinet I found in an antique store downtown.  (I bought it today.)

This morning the cleaning crew came and the place looks amazing!  I was beginning to wonder if we would ever feel like it was ready to move into.  Now it is shiny and nearly ready for us!

While that was going on I was actually sitting at a potters wheel!  Yup, it's true.  After 2 months I have finally gotten back to it.

By the time I was finished I had 10 small bowls, 2 yarn size bowls and a cookie jar with 2 lids, you know, just in case.

No pictures to prove it yet.

But my back is telling me it's true.
