Yarned by You

Susie is stuck under a mountain of snow and it’s raining cold, hard, windy rain here with the threat of snow tomorrow. I’m alternately wanting to snuggle up under the most comfortable of warm clothes, or throw out anything having to do with winter and embrace spring.

Let’s see what I can find that you’ve made on Ravelry to match my mood.

Winter Warmth. Blendab1 knit this Cowboy Cowl out of her Spring 2011 share for her gorgeous daughter.

Blendab1's Cowboy Cowl

Spring for Spring. rebeca4a knit All the Stops (designed by Caroline Fryar for the Spring 2012 collection) in Findley Dappled’s Woodland to wear on her cruise. She modified it for a more conservative neckline and skipped the belt.

Cozy Comfort. chelseabug knit a Hattie dress (also designed by Caroline Fryar for the Fall 2012 collection) in Herriot. I would love to be wrapped in a dress like this with some wool tights.

Warm-Weather Wear. SupaSteph knit a supa-awesome Leaves of Spring shawl out of Findley in Dove. Just right as a spring layering piece, though if I started right now I don’t know that I’d be done before fall!

Head Heater. jbritton79 knit this Thorpe out of Marlowe in Madrigal. A lovely pop of purple color to know that spring will someday be here.

Cool Cap. This is the first Moonshine project in the wild! Knipper knit this Ola hat (which received a lot of attention on Rav for its racy pattern page photo!) out of the brand new yarn, Moonshine in Charcoal and Swimming Pool.

Here’s something a little bit in between. Tamrisk knit up Driftwood, which has been in my favorites for awhile since it features a relatively unknown shoulder/sleeve construction called Contiguous. It’s gaining in popularity and just became an attribute tag on Ravelry. (In fact, the All the Stops dress pictures above uses it!) It’s a top down method in which you knit the sleeve cap and body at the same time. Anyway, Tamrisk did her Driftwood in one color of Sabine – Sirius. (Did I mention that it’s free?) The pink buttons are a fun addition!

What do you like to knit on these stormy days?

Yarned by You: Yearning for Spring

It is pouring freezing rain here in Massachusetts. It is absolutely horrid out. In miserable weather like this there is nothing better to do than to snuggle up with some warm wool and wait for Spring to start. So, shall we?

ShayneDKnits held Herriot double to make this Jumper with Hood. She looks absolutely adorable in it!

This lovely sweater was made by dkmerola knit Desire using Willa in Aquarium. This color makes me long for Spring!

I know I’ve featured the Featherweight Cardigan before, but I just can’t get enough of it in Findley! HeatherBrum knit this one in Crocodile.

This Hilton Field Cowl was knit by AnxiousKnitter by using three different shades of Sabine. I love how it’s reversible!

The many undyed shades of Herriot are perfect colorwork like this Vera Marguerite Tam as designed by Pam Wynne for the Fall 2012 yarn line. knittingceleste did a wonderful job knitting this one. She’s making the matching cowl!

This Big Tile Pullover was knit by tentenknits using Yearling. I love the pop of color in the yoke (and the hint of baby bump in this picture!)

Yarned by You: Findley Shawl Gallery

Susie told me that Findley Dappled is KFI’s most popular spring yarn line! That is hugely flattering. I can see why, though! Findley is a laceweight yarn with lovely sheen and drape and holds up very well to wear. Everyone seems to love working with it! And do you know what people love making with Findley? Shawls! There are tons of shawls on Ravelry using Findley! So I thought I’d share a few of them with you for today’s post.

alenegrini used Dove to knit Holden Shawlette. She purchased the yarn at one of my LYS!

LynsYarn knit this Zetor. I’m thinking for projects like this blocking wires are a necessity!

knitgirl389 knit DeepintheMeadow in Fresco and Crocodile. If you look closely, you’ll see that it’s beaded!

Cheetah2011 knit this Tuch / shawl *Filigrano* in Atmosphere. This picture shows off the color amazingly!

I’ve featured Handmadebykoren’s before. I couldn’t resist showing this Doubloon in Malachite.

cjspensley knit this super-popular Traveling Woman in Clear Blue Sky. I can’t decide what her blocking board is!

What do you knit with Findley? What would you like to see in next week’s Yarned by You?

Yarned by You

Alright folks, I’ve run out of themed Yarned by You posts! Unless I think of something brilliant (or someone requests something), I’ll be putting up an assortment of things from here on out, with sporadic themed posts when I think something up. So if you want to see a particular thing, let me know and I’ll do my best!

handmadebykoren has knitted up some GORGEOUS JMF patterns as shop displays for Gather Here, a wonderful one-of-a-kind shop located in Cambridge, MA. This is her Hattie (designed by Caroline Fryar) in Herriot. Such a stunner!

Also knit in Herriot, Barbara emailed this photo of It All Comes Together to Susan:

This is the ubiquitous Central Park Hoodie knit by purltwo in the special edition yarn Cormo Rusticus. It looks so lofty and squishy and warm!

In contrast, teribella’s Bonnie is knit with an open gauge that gives this sweater a lovely drape and spring feel! Cormo Rusticus is versatile!

Amy Kaspar designed this beautiful Fallen Lady Stole for Findley. This looks so delightfully light and snuggle-worthy! I can’t believe that there are no projects for it, yet!

This is Ahern’s Maude knit up in Findley Dappled in 105 Clear Blue Sky. I love the lacy top giving way to the ribbing! I bet it’s flattering for many shapes and sizes.

That’s all for this week! What are you knitting? What do you want to see next?

Yarned by You: Designed by You

Since I’ve been admiring all the new designs for the Spring 2013 yarn lines and I can’t show you any of those, I thought that I’d show you some patterns designed for JMF yarn not commissioned by JMF. These are all patterns that you can download right away and get knitting!

Samantha Capelet was designed by Beth Ann Beck in Yearling colorway Kiwi. It looks like the perfect thing to throw on top of your bathing suit for a little more coverage while you dry.

Learning Curve is a shawl designed by Adrienne Ku for a lace knitting class in Findley in Malachite. If you’re feeling like expanding your lace skills, check out this shawl! (Also, Happy Birthday, Adrienne!)

Narramissic Dress was designed by Jennilee Sirios in Sabine 06 Sea Glass. This would be perfect for a little girl that loves to twirl!

Infinity Scarf by Nancy Hopf  is a free pattern that was designed in Findley Dappled 105 Clear Blue Sky. I think the beauty of this yarn would make up for the miles of stockinette. It would be perfect for knitting on the plane, which I just did with Findley, although not with this pattern!

Crossing Faults by Beatrix Haggard-Lofton is another Yearling caplet, which has a completely different look the other one. This one is knit in Blue Blue Sky.

Rebeca’s Raglan Sweater was designed by Melina Martin Gingras in Sabine Sirius and Wisteria. I love how it surprises you with just a bit of lace at the hips!

Finally, Marissa’s Shawl was designed in Findley Fresco by Helen Rose. On the Ravelry page she includes a handy list of skills needed to work the lace, so if you’re feeling like you might not have the chops to knit it, check it out and you might be surprised!

Who else is designing something with JMF yarns?

You can find the JMF yarns in a LYS near you by clicking here then clicking “find a store,” inputting your zip code and selecting Juniper Moon Farm as the yarn brand.

Yarned by You: Favorites Gallery

This is going to be a more low-key Yarned by You post. It’s the day after Christmas, and although I didn’t receive any medication that makes me feel icky like Susan did, I’m feeling pretty exhausted by the season. So I’m bringing you a few projects that received the most favorites on Ravelry so that you can be sure to see the beauty too.

Yarned by You: Crochet Gallery

One thing that’s been missing so far in these Yarned by You posts is crochet. I’ve been saving up my very favorite ones for a crochet-celebration post! There were many projects to chose from and you’ll be sure to see more in the future. But enough talk. Let’s look at the pretties!

A father’s day present, doodlemuse stitched up this Crochet Ribbed Scarf in Yearling. My favorite tag is “oh-please-work.” Don’t we all have projects like that??

sparker crocheted this absolutely adorable Sleepy owl Hat with Yearling for Wildfibers in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Having only crocheted for a year, frogleg33 tackeled Gathering Leaves in Findley’s Fresca for a friend to use as a wedding shawl!

ihoot whipped up this Long Tailed Baby Elf Hat out of Sabine in colorways Sirius and Sea Glass.

Adding just a touchy of lacy crochet with Findley (colorway Bittersweet) to a neckline really perks up Laura Nelkin’s dress! She wrote a blog post on it here.

Lmstuart made this gorgeous Lace Canopy Cardi Wrap. It reminds me so much of Stippled Ink designed by Caroline Fryar for Findley Dappled; both are in Unical.

Who doesn’t love a handcrocheted basket to keep one’s eggs in? Spaz modified a Round Cushion pattern using Chadwick in Hannah. I bet those eggs feel very snuggled!

It seems that LuckyPenny didn’t have her luck with her after crocheting this gorgeous dress in Sabine based on Persimmon Pullover by Doris Chan (who does crochet at its finest!). I was bummed to read that she didn’t even get a chance to wear it before it was lost. I suppose it’s too much to hope that it will turn up in the darndest place (like under the TV cabinet)?

Pick up a hook and some JMF yarn and get hooking! I want to see what fabulous things you can come up with!

Yarned by You: Findley Gallery

Last Wednesday just completely got away from me! But this week has been a little less stressful, so I hopped right back on the horse for this week’s Yarned by You. We’ll be taking a peek at Findley. This was a really hard gallery to put together because HOLY COW there are so many lovely things made with Findley! Here’s a tiny sampling…

Ripen, knit by GimmeCoffee, looks like  the perfect thing to toss over my shoulders.

The leaf motif really makes me happy! I’m very into leaves lately!

I’ve wanted to make a lace weight cardigan for a super long time. atlkaren made a Breezy Cardigan in colorway Bittersweet that is all sweet!

I love the color and drape! I could see how this light cardigan could complement many outfits in my wardrobe!

This Whisper Wrap in colorway crocodile was knit with perfectly even stitches by malteseparakeet.

The clean geometric lines are worth the miles and miles of stockinette!

Below is a knit that was designed by Caroline Fryar called Theme & Variation Tee. This one was knit by oregeoncharknits as a store sample.

Don’t you agree that this Tee in Renaissance looks so good on her that she needs to make one for herself?

This was made as a wedding shawl for jdcrowson’s pastor. She’s doing a series of 12 shawls in 2012 and it looks like she’s right on target!

The Aeolian Shawl was knit in Fresco. Findley really lends itself well to lace and wedding shawls, as this was by far not the only wedding shawl to choose from!

This is a novel sweater concept – a stockinette stitch fingering weight sweater with a laceweight lace sweater on top of it! The top layer is Findley in Fresco again.

17Q17 definitely did a lovely job knitting this! The stitch pattern on the laceweight reminds me a lot of Finch’s Wings designed by Caroline Fryar for the Findley Dappled book.

The ubiquitous Rockefeller knit in part with Findley. The dark purple solid is Renaissance. Rockefeller is designed for fingering weight yarn and both yarns used are laceweight.

I love that SkyBlueKayak took a risk using laceweight yarns and I love how it came out! The yarns compliment each other nicely!

That rounds up this week’s Yarned by You. As always, if you click on the pictures you’ll be linked to the Ravelry project page. What’s your favorite Findley knit? There are lots and lots of them, so you can be sure that I’ll feature more soon! (I haven’t even started on Findley Dappled!)

You can find Findley and the rest of the Juniper Moon Farm Yarns in a LYS near you by clicking here then clicking “find a store,” inputting your zip code and selecting Juniper Moon Farm as the yarn brand.
