Santa Claus and Friends …

101_1127

In 1999 my daughter Patty painted this for her sister Deb for her birthday.  All the pups and kittens have Vineyard names.  Mark (Chilmark), Edgar (Edgartown), Tizzy(Tisbury), Buffy (Oak Bluffs), Martha, Vinny, Chappy(Chappaquiddick) and Katy(Katama) to name a few.

When Deb received this she still had Katy, her first Boykin Spaniel,  represented  here by the dark brown pup Santa’s holding in his right arm.

The following Christmas Katy had since died and we had Chappy.   When we took out the sculpture at Christmas time Deb took a look at it and gasped… “oh no, Chappy’s a kitten.”  With a few strokes of her paint brush Patty changed Chappy from a kitten to the little brown dog on Santa’s right boot.  All was well.

The details are incredible… Patty did a fantastic job.

This has become one of the family’s favorite Christmas decorations.

Mine And Mom’s …

I’ve done a lot of these counted cross stitch maps of the Vineyard. Each one has been for a special person.   This particular one was for my daughter Patty for Christmas 2008.   Imagine my surprise when I looked in a long forgotten box and found the one below done by a very special person in my life…

… my mother.  She must have done this over 80 years ago and it is in amazingly good condition.  Thank you mom for a beautiful surprise.

Turns out we both did Gay Head Lighthouse as well …

Hers which has the lighthousekeepers house attached to it…

The Vineyard In Stitches …

101_4531

This is my wall of Vineyard counted cross stitch projects. The Vineyard map in the upper left hand corner was the first one in 1993.  Tisbury in the bottom middle was the last one in 2011. There were other non-MV projects done in between the Vineyard ones and I also did eight more of the Vineyard maps during that time too.

These are not the only Vineyard counted cross stitches I’ve done though. The one closest to my heart is the Tabernacle designed especially for me by my daughter Deb.

The Tabernacle is my favorite place on the Vineyard for many reasons and so this picture means more to me than I can ever put into words. I did a post about it though which you can read by CLICKING HERE .

Close ups (sorry for the reflections from the windows)…

Do I have a favorite other than the Tabernacle one ?  What do you think :)  How about you, do you like one more than the others ?

Vineyard Letters …

This was interesting… caused me to look at familiar pictures in a different way.. this could be addictive :)  Try this yourself and see what’s new in what’s old :)   Some liberties may have been taken in the interpretation of certain letters !!

German Christmas Market …

100_5237

My creation
For our weekly Saturday morning coffee outing Deb and I went to the Lake Mohawk German Christmas Market in Sparta, New Jersey.  We’d never been before and since it was a beautiful day off we went.

I’m glad we did, it was fun.  Lots of German food and drink, friendly people, great Christmas music and a gorgeous view of Lake Mohawk.

My creation

Also lots of pretty things to look at and be tempted by.
