Pirate Ice!

Want to see one of my favorite new things?

It’s silly.

When the girls and I were at Michael’s a few weeks ago looking at their Halloween stuff I found this ice cube tray:

Skull and crossbones!

I also really like that the tray itself is a very flexible, rubbery material.  It makes removing the shaped cubes way easier.

Here they are in my iced coffee today:

YAARRRRR!!!!!!!!

Texting while watching is dangerous to your children

After declining for at least 40 years, injuries to children under age five rose 12% between 2007 and 2010. The possible cause? Mobile devices.

I'm sure it's true. I often see both parents and nannies lost in their smartphones while their very little children run, climb, and play at the park. What resonates most strongly with me is the section at the end of the article which paints an alarming picture of both the depth and length of distraction these devices provoke.

Farmer’s Wife blocks

IMG_8570 IMG_8571 IMG_8572

I’ve been plugging along at the Farmer’s Wife blocks as time permits. Sadly, this week I learned that the local quilt shop where I take Farmer’s Wife class is closing at the end of the year. Suddenly, these blocks are a higher priority as I really don’t want to switch instructors mid-stream.  I am about 1/3 of the way through them and will try to get as many done as I can while Cathy is still available to help out when I get stuck.

Pretty please?

Fall Fiber Festival!

This weekend is my big show of the year. Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier Station here in Virginia.  Rain or shine.  (It's been a damp week....) This is such a great festival.  It began as solely a Dog Trial event and the festival has grown up around it.

Now there are vendors of all types of fibery goodness, supplies for making, animals of all sorts and good food too.

Come see me! The Festival runs both Saturday 10-5 and Sunday, 10-4.  $5 per person.  I'll be in Tent 2, booth number 3.  And while you're at it pick up a couple of yummy donuts from Carpe Donut! mmmmmmm!
