All the blocks

IMG_7974 IMG_7971 IMG_7966 IMG_7940

Yesterday, despite with help from Riley and Gabby I assembled all the Sister’s Choice blocks into the quilt top ready for borders to be put on. There was a brief moment where I thought maybe I should have done sashing but I quickly changed my mind. I did realize that one of my border fabrics is just not going to work so that will become pillow shams instead and I’ll look for a replacement fabric for that one border.

Skin Care

lotion for dry skin

I’ve always had dry skin, even when I lived in Louisiana. As I get older, my skin is getting drier and drier and I’m continually searching for a better moisturizer. This week I tried out this recipe which immediately banished the alligator skin. Because it has water in it, it probably should have a preservative so once this is all gone I may try it again without the rosewater. That will probably give more of a cream than a lotion. I also tried out this foot cream recipe. While it hasn’t had immediate miraculous results, I think a day or two is a bit too early to judge it’s effectiveness so we’ll see what happens given time.

Stella’s Nightly Capering

For some reason, when the sun starts to go down, Stella has the irresistible urge to spring about the pastures on those new legs. It’s pretty much the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

Sniffle

btt button
A while ago, I interviewed my readers for a change, and my final question was, “What question have I NOT asked at BTT that you’d love me to ask?” I got some great responses and will be picking out some of the questions from time to time to ask the rest of you. Like now.

Jamie asks:

What was the most emotional read you have ever had?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

It smells like 1977 in here

Do you ever wake up with an idea you can't get out of your head? That was me on Saturday. Maybe it's because Ian had me up so early, but partway through the morning I found myself randomly thinking, "I...

Julia Child’s 100th Birthday

Happy 100th birthday, Julia Child. Thank you for all the inspiration.

One last Stella post

Can you stand one more All Stella post? She is just the loveliest, sweetest thing we’ve ever seen and we can’t seem to get enough of her around her! Even the other animals have fallen under her spell.

We’ll get back to regular programming tomorrow, I promise!

Working On: Beatnik

Well, I finally found the time to cast it on.

I’ve been knitting this while watching Game of Thrones, and, I’ve got to say, the plot’s just about as twisted and internecine as the cables.

Ba-dum-ching.

Seriously, though, I was expecting to be twisting one column of stitches around another– I was NOT expecting to be cabling a cable. The chart’s just complex enough that I keep having to refer back to it, which doesn’t go well with television, and really doesn’t go well to my self-assured, never-rip-back, forge-boldly-on knitting style.

I guess it’s good, every once and a while, to knit a pattern that’s smarter than you are.

The Sabine is doing nicely– springy like a wool, but cool like a cotton– and I particularly like this forest-green colorway, Foliage. It’s fun.
