Moonshine on Ravelry’s Popular New Yarns List
I was browsing patterns on Rav and thought I’d look up a yarn suggested by a pattern and imagine my surprise when I discovered that Moonshine had made Ravelry’s Popular New Yarns List!
This is incredibly exciting, although I must admit that I am so in love with Moonshine that I knew that knitters and crocheters would fall in love with it, too! And who can resist the gorgeous patterns? I hope you can get your hands on some soon so you can see what I mean!
EDITED TO ADD: Moonshine is having a big weekend! It was Steve’s number one pick on the WEBS weekly podcast, Ready, Set, Knit! BIG thanks to Steve and Kathy Elkins for the kind words.
Introducing: Findley Dappled 2013
Early this morning we all changed our clocks forward an hour (assuming you’re in a country that does that). I don’t know about you, but the time change always makes me feel a little groggy. So I thought it would be a fitting treat for folks to wake up to some beautiful knitting patterns to help take the sting off the time change.
The good thing about the time change is that we’re springing forward and I’m certainly looking forward to spring. I think that these beautiful patterns designed by Corrina Ferguson for the laceweight Findley Dappled line will put you in the spring mood too.
Findley Dappled 2013 Collection on Ravelry
Corrina knits and designs in Florida where there are only about three sweater days per year. But she keeps on knitting anyway and dreams of someday retiring somewhere where it snows. Corrina blogs at http://picnicknits.com/

There is a Chapman Shawl that is a part of the collection that is currently being test knit by the talented, fast, and lovely Deb Terrio. Once it’s done and photographed, we’ll be releasing it as a free pattern on the website. We’ll make an announcement when that happens! Here’s a sneak peek of the WIP (Work in Progress), to hold you over. It’s knit from side to side and is not yet half way finished.
To find a store near you that carries Findley Dappled yarn and the collection of patterns created for it by the phenomenal Corrina Ferguson, go to KFI’s website, click the “find a store” button, enter your zip code, and select “Juniper Moon Farm” from the drop down list.

Introducing: Yearling 2013
When we saw Janine Le Cras’s designs for the 2013 collection of Yearling (60% merino wool and 40% cotton bulky yarn), we were thrilled that they were designed with positive ease so you can determine the size you’d like to knit based on the fit you’d like. Some of these designs are unisex so you could knit a sweater for your husband and then steal it out of his wardrobe when you want a loose-fitting sweater!
For this photo shoot we focused on sporty themes, as the Packer Pullover is designed around a traditional Cricket sweater. (When they played Cricket on Downton I spent much of the scene checking out the sweater to see Janine’s design inspiration!) I can easily imagine a fun Sunday spent with a bunch of your friends while you giggle about how you hold a badminton racquet and if there are rules about where croquet wickets can be placed… because that’s how we spent the last full-day of our photo shoot!

Rainbow { knitting }

I just had to share this incredible rainbow yarn my very gifted spinning friend made for me on commission (and the project that stemmed from it). I was inspired by some yarn she had spun before for someone else. Their (multicolored) fiber wouldn't have given them much yardage, so she spun it thinner and plied it with white and I fell in love with it.

After a few brainstorming sessions, she directed me to her favorite dyers and I ended up with this 50/50 Organic Merino/Tussah Silk from Zebisis Designs,

and this undyed Norwegian wool from Woolgatherings. (And yes, that ball is as big as it looks. That is TEN OUNCES of wool!)

Ready for it?
Because thanks to my friend's capable hands, those became this:

After having some trouble choosing a pattern that would really showcase the long color changes and not scatter them or be too busy, my friend and I both gravitated toward Boneyard (by the extremely fabulous Stephen West) so Boneyard it is!

As of this morning, I am back into the yellows and already seeing hints of olive coming out of the ball.

I'll be knitting until I run out of rainbow, then finishing the whole thing with a natural white garter stitch border. Can't wait to get this off the needles!
Fun with Self-Portraits
I am back at work after 1 1/2 days home sick. Obviously I brought my new computer to play with over my lunch hour. No webcams on the work computer. I was surprised this morning to flip the switch in my office and have the lights flip on immediately and brilliantly. My office is pretty much the storm shelter, and had been unbelievably dim since I started working there.
This is what it used to be like
No joke, I was working by the light of my computer most days.
Now I have plenty of light so I can do all of the important things!
That’s some aloft in Daisy for the Tule sweater. I love me some fuzzy mohair. (Really, the yarn is for casting on during the 15 minutes I have to wait for the kiddo to get out of school. I could knit at work, but I would have to figure out how to type and answer the phone with my eyes.)
But, since I was out with a little tummy bug the last few days, I have a lot of catching up to do.

Julie’s Hat
Sometimes I need a project that doesn’t require any thinking. Right now that project is the Lorne’s Hat pattern which requires 11 inches of 2×2 ribbing before decreasing for the crown. My ears are always cold and never quite covered by my hat so this time I am going to be VERY sure it’s long enough. I’m knitting this with the bison yarn I bought at Rhinebeck last fall. It should be exceptionally warm.

With winter on my mind and fun layering elements as inspiration, the final garment from the “Squishy” series came to be.
The vest begins with the ribbed bottom edge, followed by the body which is knit back and forth in a Diamond Cable Motif and Stockinette Stitch. Short rows create the fold-over collar. The circumference of the vest is somewhat adjustable by placing the toggles/buttons elsewhere along the width of the edging at the front.
Skills
knitting, purling, cable knitting
short rows
picking up stitches
simple crochet chain to make loops for toggles/buttons
alternately, simple embroidery to attach the loops for the toggles/buttons

Add-On’s
In the future, I would like to include a variation on this pattern that includes a detachable hoodie and a sleeved version. What do you think?
The pattern is available here on Ravelry.

Yarned by You: Yearning for Spring
It is pouring freezing rain here in Massachusetts. It is absolutely horrid out. In miserable weather like this there is nothing better to do than to snuggle up with some warm wool and wait for Spring to start. So, shall we?
ShayneDKnits held Herriot double to make this Jumper with Hood. She looks absolutely adorable in it!
This lovely sweater was made by dkmerola knit Desire using Willa in Aquarium. This color makes me long for Spring!
I know I’ve featured the Featherweight Cardigan before, but I just can’t get enough of it in Findley! HeatherBrum knit this one in Crocodile.
This Hilton Field Cowl was knit by AnxiousKnitter by using three different shades of Sabine. I love how it’s reversible!
The many undyed shades of Herriot are perfect colorwork like this Vera Marguerite Tam as designed by Pam Wynne for the Fall 2012 yarn line. knittingceleste did a wonderful job knitting this one. She’s making the matching cowl!
This Big Tile Pullover was knit by tentenknits using Yearling. I love the pop of color in the yoke (and the hint of baby bump in this picture!)
