This is a weird one, but reading the complaints about Nabisco products here made me laugh like a maniac. I found it while searching for a picture of the new round Saltines that have everybody so riled up. These are some of my favorites:

“My wife can’t get her Saltines anymore. I have told her not to purchase any more Nabisco products, even after you return Saltines. I hope someone hits the unemployment line over this.” Seriously? Over some crackers?

“We have been loyal to Nabisco since our grandparents used all. After 50+ years of loyalty to your product, we will never buy Nabisco again and will encourage our children and friends not to purchase. What happened to your company?”

”What has happened to Nabisco Premium Saltine Crackers?! They have been a “staple” in our home for almost fifty years!! Now they have a strange taste, different texture, and so hard they can hardly be crumbled into soup/chili. Is there nothing we can count on in this crazy world? Not even our crackers!!!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step…

I was cleaning out my handbag this morning and realized that I have been carrying around a truly comical amount of lip balm. Or maybe everyone has 20 lip balms with them at all times? I feel the compulsion to admit that this is just the ones that were in my bag; there is lip balm in the pocket of every jacket I wear, in the center console of my car and in my bedside table.C

Clearly  I have an irrational fear of having dry lips and not having any way to remedy it. What are you afraid of leaving the house without?

My friend Lisa gives the best presents. This is partly because she has the best sense of humor of anyone I know but also partly because she spends more time in thrift stores than most sane people. There is a talent involved in finding good stuff when thrift shopping and Lisa has it coming out her ears.

Any package that arrives with Lisa’s return address is guaranteed to have something hilarious or crazy or both inside and her latest was no exception.

Magic in Frosting is my new favorite thing ever. It’s just…the weirdest. It was published in 1972 and I suspect it was just for bakeries.

“We are certain that you will find this to be the most different and complete book ever written and photographed on the subject of Figure Piping with soft frostings.”  I believe them. Especially on the “different” part.

I shared one of my favorite places in all of Virginia with my in-from-out-of-town friends this week and it occurred to me that I’ve never shared it with you. Shameful of me, because I know you will love it.

A&W Collectables is a gem of an antique store located just outside Charlottesville, VA.  I am here to tell you that if you live with in a couple of hours of this place, you should get your backside in the car right and set your gps for A&W!

This isn’t the curated, ten-lovely-things-on-a-pedestal kind of antique store. A&W is a charming jumble, the kind of place the makes you hunt for your treasures. And the hunt makes finding something you can’t live without all the sweeter, in my opinion.

The only thing better than spending an afternoon poking through the rooms at A&W is taking new people there and watching their reaction. Picture the scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when the Golden Ticket holders are let into the room with the river of chocolate and you’ll get the idea.

We hadn’t even made it inside before Kimm found a covetable collection of vintage aprons, priced between $3 and $6 dollars.

Vintage buttons? 6 for a dollar.

Caroline investigated a gorgeous old ceramic water jug.

I suspected that my friends would be gaga over the vintage jewelry and clothes upstairs and I was right. Several pairs of vintage earrings went home with Lizzy.

But the vintage hats were the showstopper.

As you can see, a good time was had by all and each of us left A&W with a prize! Caroline bought an antique darning egg. Lizzy has four new hats in her wardrobe. Kimm bought some lovely aprons. Virginia scored a 50′s era enamel-line water cooler. Zac left with wood working tools, but I think I got the deal of the day with a $15 Underwood typewriter.

If you love lovely old things like I do please schedule a visit to A&W soon. The owners are just the sweetest people and there shop is a goldmine.
