Yarned by You!

I’ve got a bit of a summer cold today and apparently what attracted me was summer blankets and quick knit hats. Talk about different ends of the knitting spectrum! All of these projects use yarns in our Spring/Summer lines.

Check out mouse1288′s Zig Zag Throw which she made in Yearling #01 Snowball, #02 Cloudy, and #04 Kiwi. I love the color combo (which seems to be inspired by a rug she has) and I bet that Yearling and the color changes makes for fast work!

gardendeeva made this Baby Bear Hat in gray to make it a baby mouse hat! Squee! I’m melting with the cuteness! Moonshine in #1 Dew definitely shines here!

This Sabine Cowl was designed by Kathy Neis using (you guessed it) Sabine! Color #03 Country Road really takes center  stage in this cowl. And, it’s FREE!

ridgebackmama’s The Amanda Hat looks lovely in Moonshine’s #12 Rope Swing. I’ve always loved this hat and I love seeing it worked up in Moonshine.

Glindale really knocked herself out knitting this gorgeous Wendy Blanket using many different colors of Sabine! She made some great color choices here and it’s fun to see Sabine used in so many different colorways!

Let’s see what we have in the YBY vaults this week. A reminder that you can click through the photo to see the project page which also links to the pattern page on Ravelry.

SunnySideOut made this gorgeous 1092 – A Ladies Shawl in Herriot. There’s a crochet bind off and she converted her knitting needle in a most ingenious way!

This Elara top (designed by Ruth Garcia-Alcantud for us) was knit by trishnewton using Moonshine in color Junebug. Based on her ravelry page, I would guess that she knit it as a shop sample for Knit -n-Crochet in Idaho. She wiped it out in just 15 days!

I love fingerless mittens! And akmoosepoops’s Shirl’s Mittletts #131 in Sabine are no exception! I like how the cabling pulls in the mitts at the wrist. I have very small wrists and that’s always a problem I have with fingerless mitts!

jennschaff posted on our ravelry group about her Overpass, knit in Findley using Dove and Mermaid. We all raved about it, and I’m sure you can see why!

These non-felted Slippers by knitterdre are super-comfy looking! I bet that Yearling would make a great slipper!

knitterdre's Non-felted Slippers

And I can’t help but to be a little bit smitten with JenfromJersey’s Eva! Driftwood is one of my favorite Findley Dappled colors (shhh… don’t tell the other colors!) and ruffles just kill me!JenfromJersey's Eva

What are you making?

Yarned by You: It’s really really Spring!

Spring has really come to the Northeast. We’re just past the disgusting pollen-laden season and right now everything is so green and beautiful and bright and sunny and happy. (Well yesterday and today have looked a bit cool and stormy, but that’s just nature reminding me that it’s spring and not summer!) So I toured through my file of favorites to see what people are making in our spring yarns!

This Runa in Sabine (12 Sirius) was made by kkuncl. She writes that it used some new techniques that she wanted to try. I love to learn new things while knitting, don’t you?

MelissaNCgirl knit this gorgeous Shirley Sweater in Findley (Poppy) super fast! I love the tie at the front and the fun lace details.

SaraLeila knit this as a chemo cap for the Hope Lodge. I love the idea of Moonshine (Blackberry) giving someone a bit of comfort through their difficult journey. This pattern is called Molly.

redsocksrules (hm… can you guess where she’s from?) made good use of Yearling (10 Leafy) by knitting Short Sands. I’m really digging oversized lace like this!

redsocksrules's Short Sands

Also in Yearling (see note above about digging oversized lace!), is this lovely Storm Fir Shawl, knit by sageb in Blue Blue Sky. Two balls of yarn, one day, and BAM! lace shawl!

This lovey sweater knit in Sabine (Posy), is reverisible. Some people wear it with the V in the back, and some with the V in the front! mclaugan shows the Joule pullover with the V in the front but added a little extra detail to the other side.

Let’s see what we have in the Yarned bu You Vault today, shall we?

First up is this Rock Island knit by Sheetah2011 in Findley. I love how open it is, but I’d be terrified of it catching on something, since I’m hard on all of my clothes.

Cheetah2011's rock island

KnitlessInSeattle knit this Bessie, which was designed by Caroline Fryar for the Fall 2012 collection of Herriot. I am in love with the stripes! Ghost Fern and Heartwood were used.

This Taiga Chowichan was knit by AlisonHW in Yearling. I love the green and purple combination and how the master and contrast color switch from the top and the bottom of the sweater.

MicheleMMPH knit this gorgeous Diamond Knit Jumper in Herriot color #6. Wow those cables look crisp and drapey – not a combination I’d typically expect1

This Cedar Leaf Shawlette was knit by jasmiepup in Moonshine #9. I love this leaf edging and I feel like I could just drive into the blue!

Finally, our friend Shirra knit this gorgeous Uma Pullover in the Sungold colorway of Sabine. Isn’t it just lovely? It looks super soft and cozy and she did a great job with the cables.

What are you working on this week?

Yarned by You: Moonshine Hat Gallery

I’m a little bit obsessed with Moonshine right now. I am excited about finishing up Berzelius so I can make the Ida Mitts from the Moonshine booklet. In the meantime, I thought I’d look at what people have made with Moonshine so far. They’re all hats! I guess because hats are fast and easy. So let’s look at some hats!

This Man Thing was knit by gardendeeva in Dew. Lovely basket-weave pattern! She made it for her Man-Thing, Bill. (That was a terrible line. Let’s just scratch that from the record book, okay?)

This Lucky 7 Hat was knit by mamykay in Popsicle. I love how the cables are so well-defined because of the lovely sheen of the yarn. Even though the yarn has a halo, it’s got lovely stitch definition!

I adore abbylb’s Lace Ribbon Slouch Hat! She loves it so much, she’s threatening to wear it to her wedding! I’m not certain that Firefly will match her wedding dress, but I bet she could rock it!

This The Amanda Hat was knit by ohbeautifulqueen in Conch Shell. That pattern has been in my favorites for a long time!

Here’s an Oak Trail knit by gardendeeva. (She knit the first hat, too.) Isn’t it just lovely?

In case you’re not convinced that it really is gorgeous, here’s SareBearKnits’ Oak Trail in Spring 2010 JMF Share yarn.

It links to her Creature Comfort Cardigan (also in Spring 2010 Share Yarn), since she doesn’t have a project page for the hat, yet. I still think the hat is lovely! Don’t you?

Moonshine on Ravelry’s Popular New Yarns List

I was browsing patterns on Rav and thought I’d look up a yarn suggested by a pattern and imagine my surprise when I discovered that Moonshine had made Ravelry’s Popular New Yarns List!

Moonshine on Popular New Yarns

This is incredibly exciting, although I must admit that I am so in love with Moonshine that I knew that knitters and crocheters would fall in love with it, too! And who can resist the gorgeous patterns? I hope you can get your hands on some soon so you can see what I mean!

EDITED TO ADD: Moonshine is having a big weekend! It was Steve’s number one pick on the WEBS weekly podcast, Ready, Set, Knit! BIG thanks to Steve and Kathy Elkins for the kind words.

Moonshine Winners!

Using the random number generator, I selected 5 numbers. Using the very complicated image-editing software (paint), we created a collage of the winners:

Susie is stuck under a mountain of snow and it’s raining cold, hard, windy rain here with the threat of snow tomorrow. I’m alternately wanting to snuggle up under the most comfortable of warm clothes, or throw out anything having to do with winter and embrace spring.

Let’s see what I can find that you’ve made on Ravelry to match my mood.

Winter Warmth. Blendab1 knit this Cowboy Cowl out of her Spring 2011 share for her gorgeous daughter.

Blendab1's Cowboy Cowl

Spring for Spring. rebeca4a knit All the Stops (designed by Caroline Fryar for the Spring 2012 collection) in Findley Dappled’s Woodland to wear on her cruise. She modified it for a more conservative neckline and skipped the belt.

rebeca4a's All the Stops

Cozy Comfort. chelseabug knit a Hattie dress (also designed by Caroline Fryar for the Fall 2012 collection) in Herriot. I would love to be wrapped in a dress like this with some wool tights.

chelseabug's Hattie

Warm-Weather Wear. SupaSteph knit a supa-awesome Leaves of Spring shawl out of Findley in Dove. Just right as a spring layering piece, though if I started right now I don’t know that I’d be done before fall!

SupaSteph Pi

Head Heater. jbritton79 knit this Thorpe out of Marlowe in Madrigal. A lovely pop of purple color to know that spring will someday be here.

jbritton's thorpe

Cool Cap. This is the first Moonshine project in the wild! Knipper knit this Ola hat (which received a lot of attention on Rav for its racy pattern page photo!) out of the brand new yarn, Moonshine in Charcoal and Swimming Pool.

Kipper's Ola

Here’s something a little bit in between. Tamrisk knit up Driftwood, which has been in my favorites for awhile since it features a relatively unknown shoulder/sleeve construction called Contiguous. It’s gaining in popularity and just became an attribute tag on Ravelry. (In fact, the All the Stops dress pictures above uses it!) It’s a top down method in which you knit the sleeve cap and body at the same time. Anyway, Tamrisk did her Driftwood in one color of Sabine – Sirius. (Did I mention that it’s free?) The pink buttons are a fun addition!

What do you like to knit on these stormy days?
