The In-Depth Look:

The author writes, “As a designer, I’m constantly inspired by the stitch patterns that fill the stitch dictionaries on my bookshelves. The patterns are so beautiful, interesting, and thought-provoking, I can spend hours poring over them, searching for just the right pattern for my design. The hardest (and perhaps saddest) part of designing is that many times I use a stitch pattern only once … It feels like it’s gone forever.”

I can relate to this.

There are so many great stitch patterns out there, there’s never going to be enough time to try them all, and so you pick and choose, use one, and then move on. No time to dawdle! So many stitches to try!

This is why I like the concept of this book. The designer forced herself to slow down. She picked seven different stitch patterns and then came up with three different designs for each of them.

All the patterns are meant to be worn around the neck as a shawl, scarf, or cowl, which makes this practical. You can always use more accessories, right?

The patterns sometimes use the stitch all-over, sometimes just as an accent, and sometimes a little of both. I like the fact that she had to push herself for these, finding new, inventive ways to re-use the same stitch.

It’s a good exercise for all of us, I think. Just because you’ve found one use for a beautiful stitch, why stop there? And if the author can help you push the edge by giving you three different patterns for each creative stitch? So much the better.

You can find this book at Amazon or at your local bookshop.

I have by and by been utilizing these wellbeing and wellness tips myself to get in shape, so you should remain to profit by these tips.

Extraordinary compared to other wellbeing and wellness tips is working out. Running for 20 minutes a day is an extraordinary approach to help your physical and psychological wellness, and to kick it into high gear on getting thinner. When you go running, you discharge exceptional chemicals in your mind called “endorphins” that improve you feel. These are known as the “vibe great” chemicals as they advance wellbeing and prosperity.

Hurrying to get more fit is an incredible methodology that I exceedingly suggest you doing. It’s all regular and doesn’t require a medicine, so you can escape – no specialist endorsement is required. I think we’ve all observed the energy of rushing to get in shape. I’ve seen my cousin for instance. She used to be huge, however now she’s as thin as a needle, and it’s all because of her running.

Something else that you can improve the situation your wellbeing and wellness is to go on a decent eating regimen design. Concoct a few vegetables and eat organic products that will improve you feel. One of the most straightforward approaches to get your servings of products of the soil is to get them prepackaged from the market.

Along these lines, you don’t need to cut up anything or place anything in a plate – it’s altogether improved the situation you. Getting your foods grown from the ground in a will cost you more since they’re prepackaged for you, yet this is quite often more than justified, despite all the trouble. Getting appropriate foods grown from the ground are essential for your wellbeing and wellness so remember that.

Another incredible wellbeing and wellness tip to take after is to subscribe to a couple of weight reduction and muscle magazines. I used to be an individual from Muscle and Fitness Magazine. It’s a magazine exclusively devoted towards helping individuals to manufacture muscle. Despite the fact that I’m not an endorser now, at whatever point I see one of these magazines, I promptly go and look through it. It’s an awesome wellspring of motivation.

Wellbeing and wellness are two themes that are generally discussed on the web however not many individuals know how to approach getting extraordinary wellbeing and being physically fit. For a few people, these 2 regions are difficult to manage and are hard to understand. In any case, with the correct direction, I figure you can have the sort of weight reduction achievement that you long for.

So move on your eating regimen design and begin getting in shape today. On the off chance that weight reduction isn’t your essential objective however it’s to enable develop some hard, shelter muscle, make sure to begin today arranging out your prosperity.

Vineyard Friendships…

Vineyard stories about friends…

Let’s begin with the two friends who pretty much started the Vineyard connection in my family.  My mother Maude Freeman (on right) and her best friend Bertha Carter Jones (on left).

Childhood friends on the Vineyard, they graduated in 1926 from Oak Bluffs High School (pre-regional high school).  After graduation they moved to Newark, NJ and it was there that they met their future husbands.. who were also childhood friends.

My dad Al Freeman on the left, Bill Jones on the right.

They grew up together in Newark, NJ and remained friends their entire lives.  The best times they had were on the Vineyard when both of our families were there for the entire summer.

For many years Bertha & Bill Jones owned a bowling alley in Oak Bluffs across from the Flying Horses.  They did not have automated pin setters so the pins had to be set by hand, I even did it from time to time myself.

Then along came Will Jones and me… not only best friends because our parents were but because we knew each other from early childhood.  How early you wonder ?  We were only a few months old when we met,  Will is a month older than me by the way and I never let him forget it… even now 🙂

The above picture has to be around 1947 or 48, it was during the month or so that I was taller than Will.

Will and I were always looking for things to keep us busy and out of trouble.  Someone showed me how to make little flowers by using yarn and forks… I immediately showed Will. We set about our tasks, me at my house, he at his.

The next morning Will’s mom called my mom asking if he was at my house ?  Seems she went looking for a fork and couldn’t find any !!! A few minutes later Will was at my door, and yes, he had all his mother”s forks with him and they were filled with yarn.  Seems I had neglected to show him ow to get the yarn off the forks to make the little flowers.Oopsie.

Will had carried those forks from his house on the other side of Oak Bluffs by the harbor.. up Circuit Ave to my house where we freed his mother’s forks of their yarn.  I have no recollection of what we did with the yarn flowers.

Last but not least, my daughter Deb and her best friend of 42 years, Dawn Green.

In July 1984 I took the girls to Martha’s Vineyard, just the three of us.  The trip was a new experience in that I’d never been away alone with two teenagers and I had never driven to MV by myself.

We did a lot of things together but the girls also spent time doing their own things while I did mine.  It was a nice mix to togetherness and apartness (is that even a word)!

Out for fancy dinner one night.

100_4392

One incident that sticks out in my mind is dinner one night at the Wharf Pub & Restaurant in Edgartown.  We ate early and the restaurant was almost empty.  We were in the middle of our meal when our waitress came over and said…”you might want to eat slowly as Billy Joel & Christie Brinkley are on their way in and I thought the girls might get a kick out of seeing them!”  THE GIRLS… forget the girls, I was the one getting all excited. So we nibbled and waited and waited and waited and then THEY walked past the window next to our table and entered the restaurant.  As we left the restaurant and walked past their table Billy Joel smiled and waved at us.  We giggled all the way back to the hotel.

Whether with family or friends, Vineyard memories are always extra special.

Pattern Release: Under the Sun Shawl

Under the Sun is the companion shawl to Beneath the Moon. It’s worked in Mrs Crosby Reticule and uses two skeins.

I originally did the swatch in Mrs Crosby Hat Box, but opted for the lace for the yardage vs cost. Reticule, at around $23/skein, is a lovely, luxurious option at a really good price.

Having said that, the pattern is easily modified for really any yarn weight. Just work the swatch (directions included) to get a fabric you like, and go from there!

This lovely laceweight shawl, worked as a wedge from the bottom up, incorporates a modifcation of one of my favorite vintage lace patterns, Print of the Wave. The half wave edging is worked as a knitted on edging to bind off the top of the shawl.

Both charts and line by line instructions are provided.

It’s a pretty relaxed day of lounging around, swimming, and petting sheep today. I’ve spent some time watching the hummingbird moths all over the butterfly bush by the pool. They move so fast they’re hard to catch an image of!

Later we’ll head out to spend the evening with friends grilling food and playing games. The recipe for the flag cobbler can be found HERE.

Have a great holiday, everyone!

Fourth of July 2017…

Chimney Fire Sweater (Finally) Done!

Okay, okay. It’s been more or less done for weeks, except for weaving in the ends. But, as I hate weaving in loose ends AND it was too hot to wear, it’s been languishing on my desk awaiting completion.

So naturally I picked a 90 degree day to do it. Ha!

07.03.17a

Despite how long it took me, it’s actually a very easy, straightforward knit.

07.03.17b

I’m also still completely in love with the color, despite the fact that there’s a slightly darker band down the middle where I clearly didn’t match up the dye just right.

07.03.17c

07.03.17d

And now brace yourselves. I had Oona take pictures of me wearing it. She didn’t do too badly, but I’m not the most photogenic subject, sooo……LOL.

07.03.17e

See the darker band? It actually doesn’t bother me one bit. Adds character.

07.03.17f

And there you go. My resting bitch face. I don’t mean to look so dour, I promise!

07.03.17g

Anyhoo, I’m super pleased with how it came out, and it’ll be perfect once the colder weather hits again.

In the meantime I have started working on some holiday projects to make sure they are done in time. You’ll get to see those after the holidays, of course. They’re a surprise!
